The 4DTV IRD satellite receiver can receive C & Ku-Band Analog signals as well as C & Ku-Band Digicipher 2 signals. It uses the Videocipher 2 (VC2) descrambler technology (descrambler board) to receive scrambled Analog channels and Digicipher 2 (DC2) technology to receive digital scrambled and unscrambled DC2 channels. The DC2 capabilities are seperate from the VC2 descrambler board. DC2 is built into a circuit board inside the receiver. With this receiver you can receive unscrambled DC2 signals and you can subscribe to DC2 subscription channels. To receive the unscrambled DC2 channels you will most likely have to subscribe to some sort of progamming on the digital side. For example, if you already subscribe to HBO on Analog, you would call your programmer and tell them that you have added a 4DTV receiver and then give them your 4DTV unit ID number and the programmer will activate (send a Hit) to your unit via satellite and turn on the HBO's that are DC2 digital. As of 3/30/01 the digital HBO's are available at no extra charge if you already subscribe to the C-Band HBO's.

The 4DTV has what is called Generic Satellites in the satellite program menu. These generic satellites can be used to search out Hidden Digital DC2 Channels.
